House Arrest
by Pieksma on Jun.27, 2008, under Family, Living
Today I was upset, no I was angry very much so.
As you might know we live in a 4 room apt on the 5th floor.
For the last few months the elevator in our hous has been malfunctioning from time to time. a bit of an annoyance first.
But the breakdown frequency increased. Normally the housing company has the elevator fixed quite soon afer someone reported it.
This week the elevator has been faulty 3 times. Today when Maria left for work we realized that the elevator was down again. So I called in a complaint to the helpdesk. This was 0700 in the morning. At 1000 I had got my son, Max, dressed and read to take to his grandmother. This is something she has been looking forward to during the whole week.
No.. elevator.
In essence I was confined to my apartment. The stairway is far to narrow for me to venture down it wit a 10 month old boy, stroller, and several other items.
I called the helpdesk….no reply. I called the super who only referred me to the helpdesk. (Oh he also said that it was not the janitors job to help me down the stairs with my stuff.)
1300 I finally got hold of the helpdesk, the girl there asked if I had talked to the super. Also she claimed that the faulty elevator was reported to the repair company.
The Elevator was not repaired until 1500, way to late for me to take Max to my mother.
8 hours of house arrest.
Now I have contacted a lawyer from the tenant association I’m a member of.
I have good hopes he can get me a good deal. And yes, we are moving as soon as possible.
